Farm Kitty
 
Hawaii is rabies free. In an attempt to keep it that way, Hawaii
has very strict quarantine laws when importing pets. In addition
to all the normal vaccines, health checks, an implanted microchip
identifier, a ridiculously expensive rabies test and preposterous amount
of paperwork, the pets also need to be quarantined for 120 days.
That's four months. That is a long time. Especially for two
little girls separated from their pet kitties.A couple years ago Hawaii changed the law so now pets can be "quarantined" by getting their rabies shots and tests then staying on the mainland for four months. Our dog and two cats are currently in "quarantine" at my uncle's house. He has a large house and a huge yard and I'm sure the pets are quite happy there. The only problem is that Valerie and the girls want the pets here. 
It's a good thing that Hawaii doesn't have any rabies problems because
Hawaii certainly does have a problem with feral cats and dogs, there
are tons of them. It didn't take long for one of these cats to
figure out that our house was the perfect place to find all the free
food and scratching behind the ears that a cat could possibly hope for.
I'm sure this cat has been around people before because as soon as he
realized we were eating chicken, he came right up to us. He was
very hungry.The girls haven't decided on a name yet but I'm sure it won't be long. The cat has made himself right at home and spends all night fighting off any other cats that try to invade his new territory. I'm not sure how things will work out when our cats get here. Maybe the dog will help this new cat decide that he can share the porch. Whatever the case, there's no getting rid of him now. Valerie and the girls are quite happy to have a kitty again. They were so busy petting the new cat, they hardly even noticed the large peacock and his flock of peahens that were roaming the yard. On another note, since I had mentioned the Princess Birthday Party that Emily was invited to, I figured I better post a picture. Emily had a good time. She was especially happy about the Barbie she got as a present even though it wasn't her birthday.  |
